From mid-Cambridge
Drive up Cambridge Street almost all the way to Harvard Yard and the
underpass. Take the last right turn before the traffic signal onto
Sumner Road. Take the first right onto Irving Terrace. My house is a
big grey shingled affair two-thirds of the way down on the left. The
driveway is to the right of the house. My parking space is the one
closest to the street.
From MIT
Drive up Broadway about 1.5 miles toward Harvard Square. Turn right on
Prescott Street or wait until Quincy where you are forced right. Go
right onto Cambridge Street, away from Harvard Square. Take an
immediate left onto Sumner Road. Take the first right onto Irving
Terrace. My house is two-thirds of the way down on the left. The
driveway is to the right of the house. My parking space is the one
closest to the street.
From Mass Pike
Get off at the Cambridge exit (first exit after Newton). Go across the
Charles River and go left onto Memorial Drive. Take a right at the
third light onto JFK Street. Go straight through four traffic lights
(and Harvard Square) then bear right under the Harvard Yard underpass.
Bear left and then straight onto Cambridge Street. Take the first left
after the light onto Sumner Road. Take the first right onto Irving
Terrace. My house is two-thirds of the way down on the left. The
driveway is to the right of the house. My parking space is the one
closest to the street.
From Lincoln/Concord/Hanscom (Northwest suburbs)
Exit 128 on Route 2 East. Turn right at the first traffic light onto
the Fresh Pond Parkway. Go 270 degrees through the first rotary at
Fresh Pond and straight through (180) the second rotary onto Concord
Avenue. Follow Concord Avenue to the end, then bear right onto Garden
Street into Harvard Square. Go straight through two traffic lights and
then bear right under the Harvard Yard underpass.
Bear left and then straight onto Cambridge Street. Take the first left
after the light onto Sumner Road. Take the first right onto Irving
Terrace. My house is two-thirds of the way down on the left. The
driveway is to the right of the house. My parking space is the one
closest to the street.
If You Don't Like to Drive... (the T)
Take the Red Line to the Harvard Square stop. Walk through Harvard Yard
all the way out the other side to the Science Center (concrete building
shaped like an old Polaroid camera). Bear right alongside a huge brick
Memorial Hall and out onto Cambridge Street. Cross Cambridge St. (big
ugly concrete building, Gund Hall, is on your left). One block straight
and then left onto Sumner Road. Go half a block and then right onto
Irving Terrace. My house (#5) is two-thirds of the way down on the
left.
If we are going flying
We have operated the R44 helicopter from the soccer fields at MIT, but
generally speaking it is simpler to use an airport, especially when
flying airplanes. If we're going flying, please refer to
