East Coast Aero Club operates Robinson R44 and R22 helicopters from Hanscom Field (KBED), 12 nautical miles northwest of downtown Boston. This is the closest general aviation airport to Boston. We have an active flight training business with 32 aircraft total, operating 365 days per year from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. We have been flying photographers for more than 20 years. We have six qualified pilots, the least experienced of whom has been flying since 2002. We fly with doors off in weather down to freezing; the heater in the Robinsons is very effective.

How to Book

Call 781-274-6322 to reach the front-desk dispatcher (available 7 am to 6 pm, 7 days a week). Or email Philip Greenspun, philg@mit.edu, to schedule.

Prices

For regular customers who maintain an account, we have the lowest price in the world on an R44: $379 per hour. For one-time charters, we have the following prices:

Point to Point Charters

We do flights starting and ending at the same place. If you want to be picked up at Point A and dropped off at Point B, e.g., Bedford, MA to a farm in Maine or on Nantucket, please email philg@mit.edu and we can refer you to some reputable charter operators.

Extreme Cold Weather

In extreme cold weather, it is nice to be in a helicopter with a sliding window so that you only have a 100 mph breeze when you're actually taking pictures. Unfortunately, no sliding window is available for the R44. If you are lightweight and afraid of the cold, Anne Umphrey at (617) 877-2012 has a Robinson R22 with sliding photo door.
