Objective
This lesson introduces in-flight emergencies relevant to IFR flight
from an instructional perspective. The instructor will simulate a
student and the CFII-H candidate will simulate teaching emergency
procedures related to IFR flight.

Preflight Discussion
- Radio failure procedure
- Collision avoidance
- Pitot static system failure
- Loss of gyro attitude indicator
- Loss of gyro heading indicator
- Use of timed turn
- Horizontal situation indicator
- Loss of glide slope
- Alternator/generator failure
- Unforecast adverse weather
- Engine failure in instrument flight
CFII-H Instructional Practice
- Collision avoidance (steep turn)
- Loss of gyro attitude indicator
- Loss of gyro heading indicator
- Holding pattern using timed turn
- Partial panel attitude panel review
- Recovery from unusual attitude
- Autorotative descent under the hood
Schedule
- Depart KBED northwest towards the practice area
- Practice in-flight emergencies at the practice area (except for autorotation)
- Return to KBED under the hood and autorotate under the hood to the active runway
Completion Standards
The CFII-H candidate shall demonstrate all the listed IFR
emergencies from an instructional perspective.
