Objective

Continue building proficiency in any area(s) of weakness as determined by the instructor. Introduce basic low-altitude cross-country navigation in a helicopter via flight to an airport about 30 n.m. away and back. Introduce student to governor-failure/governor-off operations. Introduce student to low rotor RPM recognition and recovery.

Completion Standards

The student should be able to navigate with limited instructor assistance when airports or other large landmarks are less than 20 n.m. apart. The student should need only partial assistance to navigate at 1000' over terrain with less distinct landmarks. The student should be able to use Direct-To navigation with the GPS mounted in the training helicopter. Student should be able to maintain rotor RPM in the green during governor-off operation. Student should be able to recover from low rotor RPM by simultaneously lowering collective and rolling on throttle.

Any deviations from the completion standards should be noted in previous section. After completing a maneuver listed under Introduction, place a check mark next to that maneuver. Assign grades of Above Standard, Meets Standard, or Below Standard to maneuvers listed under Review.
