Objective
Make progress toward holding a hover. Improve mid-air handling
skills. Become familiar with normal approaches.
For ab initio students: Improve radio communication skills.

Schedule
- 0-30 minutes: student shows instructor a weather briefing;
discussion about whether or not to fly; review of quiz or reading
material
- 30-60: drive to helicopter hangar and preflight inspection
- 60-70: startup
- 70-80: instructor air taxis to Taxiway Whiskey or Romeo for hover
practice at Bedford
- 80-95: flight to Norwood (KOWD), with practice on climbs,
descents, turns
- 95-105: hover practice at Norwood
- 105-115: pattern work at Norwood
- 115-130: return to Hanscom
- 135-145: hover work at Hanscom
- 145-165: put helicopter away, return to classroom
- 165-180: discussion

Completion Standards
The student graduates to the next level when he or she can hold a
hover for more than 1 minute in winds of 8 knots or less. In
addition, the student should be able to hold altitude +/- 100' when
straight and level and +/- 200' in turns. Airspeed control should be
+/- 10 knots.
