Briefing an Instrument Approach

Site Home : Flying : Videos : One Item

Every airline crew, prior to every approach to landing, conducts an "approach briefing" in which one pilot reads the most important details of the procedure. This gives the pilots a structured opportunity to make sure that everything inside the aircraft is set up properly.

The technique of approach briefing can be applied to single-pilot operation as well. The pilot reads the approach plate just as if a copilot were present and checks the radio and instrument set-up.
