Phil I can only thank you for hosting an excellent Chinese dinner for two Californians a short 14 months ago on a cold evening after you keynoted the Seybold Internet Publishing Conference. Your brilliance shines through all you do, yet what I read in your remarks illustrates that this willingness to inquire deeply is not a universal trait- far from it. In fact, building a great company has a lot to do with providing a safe, somewhat magical place where ordinary people can accomplish extra-ordinary things. You had that then. The words attributed to Warren Buffet kept floating the the surface as I read your piece: "ONLY invest in companies that any moron can run, because... eventually... one will!" Unfortunately, your VCs (and many other investors in similar situations) have not heeded this advice. Time is on your side.
