Unalterable principle: the speaker is not responsible for anything
except speaking. It is always someone else's job to handle the
logistics.
Things that we need to have:
- fast and reliable Internet connection
- Windows or Unix computer running Netscape Navigator (any version)
- real mouse attached to the computer (no trackpads!)
- bright and readable video projector
- wireless microphone
- backup computer (laptop)
- backup video projector
The backup equipment can be in the hands of a campus A/V department but
if the talk is on a Sunday must be in the hands of the logistics person.
- 10 days before: catering ordered
- 8 days before: A/V support ordered
- 1 day before: test room; prepare phone list for event with A/V
number, emergency A/V alternative, network support number
- 1 hour before: use Netscape Navigator and real mouse to connect to
"photo.net", "wimpy.arsdigita.com", and "scorecard.org"; verify that
people towards the back of room can view WimpyPoint slides (adjust font
size up if necessary). Test wireless mic level, again from back of room.
