Rocky Mountain National Park
by Philip Greenspun
(Badly photographed: I wasn't there long enough and the light was too sunny and plain.)

You start relatively low in the park, maybe only 8000' above sea level.
Then you climb up through pine trees ...
... and around lakes ...
... until you get to where trees are swept by the wind into gnarled shapes ...
... or don't grow at all.
Coming back down feeling the altitude,
it was a relief to come upon a beaver dam.
People go crazy photographing elk.
A ranger said I wouldn't get any decent pictures at Bear Lake at sunset ...
... and he was right.
