Ripon in the news

Ripon, Wisconsin is famous among pilots as the start of the VFR arrival procedure to the annual “Oshkosh” fly-in (officially EAA Airventure). A flying friend emailed me “Former Ripon High School teacher accused of sexual relationship with 17-year-old student”:

A former Ripon High School English teacher is accused of having a sexual affair with one of her students, which involved overnight stays at motels, sexting and messages that professed love.

Samantha J. Fitzpatrick of Oshkosh was charged Wednesday in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court with sexual assault of a student by school staff, child enticement, exposing a child to harmful material and obstructing an officer.

The 28-year-old faces more than 35 years in prison if convicted of all charges — three of which are felonies.

Department of True Friendship:

In September a friend of Fitzpatrick’s told police that Fitzpatrick professed to having marital problems and admitted to having an affair with a male that was turning 18 years old soon.

Readers: What do you think of tax dollars being spent to prosecute and then imprison this young lady for up to 35 years? The typical German government official who attended the Wannsee Conference was sentenced to 2-4 years in prison (see the roll-out text in the movie Conspiracy). The age of consent in neighboring Minnesota is 16 (map).

  1. She’s wearing a very racy looking shirt/halter top for a high school yearbook photo.
Hey, Phil: it’s the one chance we males have to see the female side actually get blasted in court.

  2. My dad grew up in a small, remote farm town. When he was 17 he got caught shagging his teacher. The fallout? He got expelled and had to finish grade 12 at a school 40 miles away, while she kept her job. Back then having a teacher willing to work in a small town was more important than punishing her for the “damage” she inflicted upon my father.

  3. I say, that woman needs a firm slap on the wrist!

    A special for Phil:

SAN FRANCISCO — He was a 15-year-old kid with all the usual teenage sexual passions.

She was his neighbor–a 34-year-old mom, later convicted of statutory rape for engaging him in a romantic tryst that resulted in her getting pregnant.

But in a case that sets the term “deadbeat dad” on its ear, a California appeals court has ruled that the young man from San Luis Obispo, identified only as “Nathaniel J.” in court records, is responsible for paying child support for the baby born of the illegal union.

The victim has to pay the rapist.

Not even 13-year olds are safe.

Female teachers just can’t keep it in their pants.

  4. what with four kids, I’ve met enough young public school female teachers to think it’s crazy that they would want to get involved with an 17-18 yo male. But then I remember taking “Expository Writing,” a required course freshman year in college.
The most handsome & self-confident guy in the class seemed to have a lot of inside jokes with the 30-35 yo instructor (average-looking, but buxom physique). So after about a month, another guy in the class says to me when I say I feel as though she basically ignores everyone but this hottie: “She’s sleeping with him. I’ve known that since about the 2nd or 3rd class.”

  5. Mark, Sam: I live in Massachusetts, where the age of consent is 16, so it wouldn’t make sense to me to spend tax dollars prosecuting or imprisoning anyone as a result of this relationship.

(Separately, I don’t think it would discourage Americans from seeking profits via the family court system to see this teacher “blasted in court”. If anything, this shows that it is unwise to have sex in a way that doesn’t yield a profit under family law. Suppose that the kid’s father is a dentist. If the teacher had sex with the dentist instead of the son, she could be banking $100,000 per year tax-free under the Wisconsin child support formula instead of worrying about going to prison.)
