Who will sign up to read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie to the tender souls at Google?

Antonio Garcia Martinez posted a fun item on Facebook. He was heading over to Google to give a talk and, that morning, they canceled. Someone at Google finally cracked open his book, Chaos Monkeys, and discovered an offensive paragraph:

Most women in the Bay Area are soft and weak, cosseted and naive despite their claims of worldliness, and generally full of shit. They have their self-regarding entitlement feminism, and ceaselessly vaunt their independence, but the reality is, come the epidemic plague or foreign invasion, they’d become precisely the sort of useless baggage you’d trade for a box of shotgun shells or a jerry can of diesel.

Who will volunteer to read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie to these tender coders?

  1. In the Internet service that Google provides to its employees, does it block access to Antonio Garcia Martinez’s best-selling book and other similar objectionable content?

  2. I didn’t realize Google was so biased against writers whose work is inadvertently self-descriptive.

  3. I missed the 80’s when we had TV shows such as “The Benny Hill Show” [1], [2] or “Married… with Children”, [3], [4] or “Three’s Company”. [5], [6].

I wonder what the reaction would be today if those shows are still airing?!

  4. @George A,

Armistead Maupin, no less, at least one time hero of the queer world I interacted with, poured out page after relentless page of the most acerbic ICBM class wit, the subjects the same queer community that revelled in such abundance of realism, embraced arguably their mist insightful member, and lauded the works to all including me, the impression that I received of the queer world being wholly positive, for what self critical, freshly objective, sea breeze blessed awareness could be any lesser way of living?

Something has gone very wrong indeed in barely a generation.

  5. Is this the extension of desperate distinction not by individualism not by creativity, but by the exclusions of hostilities and apartheid?

  6. Gee, that’s an exciting paragraph right there. It sure upsets a lot of people, which is always fun. It makes one wonder though. Does this guy despise only Bay Area women, or all women? What does he actually know about epidemics or foreign invasion? Close to half of the doctors and nearly all of the nurses in the Bay Area must be women. Is the aware of that? Doctors and nurses tend to be awfully good to have around during wars and epidemics.

  7. Vince: Maybe Google can set up a Safe Space room from which people can query Mr. Martinez via email with the questions that you suggest. Hard-shelled elderly foreigners can filter his responses so that none of the young Americans in the Safe Space are harmed.
