Hospitals are surging with unvaccinated patients infected with the Delta variant — which could affect car accident victims and other non-Covid-19 patients who need hospital care, doctors say.
“None of these patients thought they would get the virus, but the Delta variant has proven to be so highly contagious that even the young and the healthy, including pregnant patients, are now starting to fill up our hospitals,” said Dr. Neil Finkler, chief clinical officer for AdventHealth Central Florida.
(Note that it is not “women” who become pregnant, but “patients” in a beautiful rainbow of gender ID)

Why haven’t the technocrats come up with the obvious modest proposal? If the unvaccinated are euthanized they won’t clog up the hospital beds to which the righteous are entitled.

At least in Florida they are less likely to tell off unvaccinated people (how dare they?!).

(Maskachusetts was COVID-free in June 2020, but the virus came back in the winter, just as other respiratory viruses do. Florida seems to have a summer COVID peak. Why? My medical school professor friends remind me that physicians do not know why influenza is seasonal.)

COVID is a funny illness… the only one in which a heathy person is considered a case just because a BS test with unpublished rate of false positives has signaled something.

Yet, according to the aforementioned data, the average number of deaths in Florida for the previous week is 25, not 140. The number is not great, but a far cry from the NYT claim.

It isn’t so much the MA vs FL body count but the respective state residents and their public servants response to the nonsense. That article, like all the ‘I just wish I got the vaccine before being ventilated to death’ articles are all fake. Look outside of America to see how the vaxxed are doing in comparison to the unvaxxed with regards to hospitalization. As always less than 5 pages in on a search result are almost certainly all fake news.
The war isn’t unwinnable. Actually the Delta variant is so transmissible that an outbreak will spread throughout a population and then die back much more quickly (but with a much higher peak rate of infections) than Mk 1 CV19, thus *ensuring* herd immunity. If the population has existing immunity through vaccination or exposure to other variants, hospitalisations may not be too high.
This is why UK infections have peaked and fallen contrary to doomsaying predictions, and why you should take any vaccination available. Indications are that Delta is close to an optimum in the virus’s fitness landscape and further mutations may not succeed against it.
Eventually it becomes just another cold, unless you’re immunologically naive (member of an isolated tribe, or New Zealander, eg).
You’re probably right. There will be a percentage of breakthrough cases in this process that will give the vaccinated even more protection. It’s happening before our eyes right now.
