{"id":22321,"date":"2019-02-17T14:47:43","date_gmt":"2019-02-17T19:47:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/philip.greenspun.com\/blog\/?p=22321"},"modified":"2019-02-21T00:00:47","modified_gmt":"2019-02-21T05:00:47","slug":"meet-in-austin-texas-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/philip.greenspun.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/17\/meet-in-austin-texas-this-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet in Austin, Texas this week?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ever since being assured by <a href=\"https:\/\/philip.greenspun.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/12\/why-the-disrespect-toward-alexandria-ocasio-cortez\/\">Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/a> that socialism is essential for well-being, I have planned to visit Texas, where state\/local government consumes only 7.6 percent of income (<a href=\"https:\/\/taxfoundation.org\/state\/texas\/\">Tax Foundation<\/a>; compare to <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfoundation.org\/state\/new-york\/\">New York<\/a> at 12.7 percent), and enjoy it before the inevitable downward spiral from an undersized government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It turns out that this is the big week for the investigation into the suffering endured by an under-served population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I myself will be under-served at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fairmont.com\/austin\/\">Fairmont<\/a> (no free Internet!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who would like to meet in Austin, perhaps coffee at the Fairmont, this week? I should be available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. I can also get together in the evening.
