{"id":28833,"date":"2020-10-20T13:49:23","date_gmt":"2020-10-20T17:49:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/philip.greenspun.com\/blog\/?p=28833"},"modified":"2020-10-20T13:49:23","modified_gmt":"2020-10-20T17:49:23","slug":"why-did-twitter-and-facebook-suppress-the-new-york-post-after-it-published-the-biden-emails-but-not-the-new-york-times-after-it-published-the-trump-tax-return-info","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/philip.greenspun.com\/blog\/2020\/10\/20\/why-did-twitter-and-facebook-suppress-the-new-york-post-after-it-published-the-biden-emails-but-not-the-new-york-times-after-it-published-the-trump-tax-return-info\/","title":{"rendered":"Why did Twitter and Facebook suppress the New York Post after it published the Biden emails, but not the New York Times after it published the Trump tax return info?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Catching up a bit here on the news&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/abrambrown\/2020\/10\/19\/twitter-wont-let-new-york-post-tweet-until-it-agrees-to-behave-itself\/#6154645266b5\">&#8220;Twitter Won\u2019t Let The New York Post Tweet Until It Agrees To Behave Itself&#8221;<\/a> (<em>Forbes<\/em>):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Twitter TWTR +1.2% has kept the Post\u2019s official Twitter account locked since Thursday, the Post says, when the newspaper shared several tweets about its story on Hunter Biden that has been increasingly called into question.<\/p><p>On Thursday, Twitter blocked sharing of the Post story and said <strong>the piece violated several of its rules, including a prohibition on sharing personal information and hacked materials.<\/strong> Facebook also reduced distribution of the Post report, but the brunt of conservative displeasure over the social media sites\u2019 limiting access to the Post story fell on Twitter.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The New York Times published information that it says came from Donald Trump&#8217;s personal tax returns (but they haven&#8217;t published the actual returns so we can&#8217;t see for ourselves?). Yet the NYT wasn&#8217;t banned by Twitter or Facebook.
