Sources

"your share" is how much each U.S. resident would receive if Elizabeth Warren confiscated all of Elon Musk's money and divided the proceeds equally after subtracting administrative costs of 62 percent.

Formula

The clock uses a mark-to-market formula based on Bloomberg and Investopedia figures from June 2026:
Net worth = (TSLA price * 155 billion / 375.12) + (SPCX price * 737 billion / 152) + 34 billion
In other words, the Tesla term scales a $155 billion Tesla stake by the current Tesla share price relative to a $375.12 reference price. The SpaceX term scales a $737 billion SpaceX stake by the current SpaceX share price relative to a $152 reference price. The remaining $54 billion is a fixed approximation for other assets, liabilities, and methodology adjustments, including Neuralink, The Boring Company, cash, pledged-share debt, and other Bloomberg/Forbes-style adjustments.

How it Works

... is explained in somewhat simplified form, including source code, in Chapter 10 of Philip and Alex's Guide to Web Publishing. The original Bill Gates Wealth Clock was built back in 1995 as an example for MIT students of the future of Web service design: servers that combine information and services from other servers (see http://philip.greenspun.com/teaching/teaching-software-engineering).
