Objective
This lesson reviews instrument approaches from an instructional
perspective. The instructor will simulate a student and the CFII-H
candidate will simulate teaching at least three instrument
approaches.

Preflight discussion: Teaching Instrument Approaches
- Teaching non-precision approaches
- Teaching precision approaches
- Teaching approaches using various NAVAIDs: NDB, VOR, VORTAC or VOR/DME, LOC, ILS, LDA, SDF, RNAV, and GPS
- Stressing the importance of a thorough approach briefing
CFII-H Instructional Practice
- CFII-H candidate teaches one precision instrument approach
- CFII-H candidate teaches two non-precision instrument approaches
Schedule
- GPS-A at 6B6
- VOR/DME 21 at 6B6
- ILS 29 or 11 at BED
Study Assignments
- Instrument Flying Handbook, Chapters 4 and 6
Completion Standards
The CFII-H candidate shall teach three different types of
approaches to CFII-H PTS standards.
