On a cold December day near Union Square, I happened upon two black
youths who had been detained by New York City's Finest. It seems the
cops believed that they had stolen their newish Ford Escort.
In the end, it turned out that the two had rented the car.
This enabled one of the cops to attend to more traditional duties (I
caught up with her a few blocks south).
