"but Microsoft makes a good chunk of change off of the Mac market (they own 25% of Apple)." Not true. In 1997, Microsoft got 150 million of non-voting stock, Apple was a 4 billion company. So, it was near a 4% of Apple. And Microsoft sold this stock circa 2001.
