This article on the Angelina Jolie divorce lawsuit (previous posting) is kind of interesting for the light it sheds on the American divorce industry:
As of October 8, The Richest claims [the defendant] is worth $240 million while Jolie is worth a bit less with an estimated net worth of $200 million.
[the defendant] and Angelina Jolie were attempting to sort out an agreement for the division of their properties, temporary support for Jolie and the kids, and permanent financial support for the family.
In other words, if this doesn’t settle, taxpayers will be funding judges and other court personnel to sort out the question of the extent to which a person with $200 million in assets needs financial assistance in order to take care of a few children on a part-time basis.

On one hand, I get what you’re saying. On the other hand, it seems they may have paid for more than their fair share to fund the judges through taxes paid. Also, I assume they will be playing court costs and filing fees.
A reasonable person would take a look at Jolie’s income and conclude that she already has plenty of money, but that’s not how the system is set up.
It’s too bad a judge can’t just laugh her out of the courtroom.
If Brad and Angelina get equal joint custody, then Brad has to pay because he has more money. If Angelina gets sole custody of the kids, then Brad would have to pay no matter how much or how little money he had or earned.
I thought they lived in a castle in France?
There’s a Youtube video showing a younger Jolie casually talking about being filmed undergoing ritualized sexual torture. I guess the days of having a private eye digging up dirt on your ex are long gone.
France would be a poor choice of venue for a divorce plaintiff, especially one interested in child support profits.
