To be fair to the French, the U.S. Air Force has a number of units that use chickens as their symbols.

The Bersaglieri, arguably Italy’s toughest assault troops wear rooster plumes on their dress uniform hats. They only double time in parades and their band plays wind instruments while running – that takes stamina.
