The Boston Globe carries an interesting article on Al-Jazeera and their coverage of the recent battle in Gaza. The author is a Harvard graduate student living in Syria, so he is much closer to the locals than a typical Hilton-dwelling journalist.

The way Al-Jazeera reports news — and the Middle East in general — is totally one sided even when the news is about their own government or people. That is, and what’s ironic is this, Al-Jazeera doesn’t report how Palestinian civilian are abused and oppressed daily by their own government; this is very common all over the Middle East. The few and powerful, always oppresses the majority and poor and they are forced into believing that it is in “God’s will”. I know, because I used to live there, and is why my parents immigrated.
Does anyone know how to get Al-Jazeera (the mideast feed) here? Perhaps via “web TV”? That would be interesting. I’d be curious to see if (web-TV were possible) the US would somehow censor the feed.
PS>> Very astute comment by George (above).
Al Jazeera never censors war photos. In that way it shows horrible images. Some people don’t like it. But the channel only shows the reality of war. Who says that war is not horrible? Not showing the reality of war is a sure form of censorship and an absolute betrayal of the truth.
