I was talking to a friend of mine about how a remodeling project was going. “I’m tired of living with Mexicans,” was her reply (apparently the relaxed crew that shows up at 10:00 am every day is from south of the border). I thought that if I’d gotten that on video it would have made an awesome negative political ad.

Re: Mexican immigrants (illegal or otherwise)
Since I regularly do remodeling projects that require day laborers, I love any immigrant, especially when they work for anywhere form half to two thirds less than native citizens.
In my experience, native citizens ask for too much money, take too much time, can be argumentative, try to weasel out of agreements, in addition to sub-contracting to the immigrants anyway.
If I had to rely solely on natives, my costs would double or triple, my schedules would be longer, and because of that I probably wouldn’t even start the project in the first place. I’ll just cut out the middleman and get the job done.
Your friend’s experience runs counter to my own.
The Mexican immigrants I have worked with have been polite, hard-working, smart, and reliable.
