One of my personal strategies is to ignore the most exciting news and wait until there is a New Yorker story explaining it all. It has been a year since the shooting of Michael Brown by Darren Wilson and Jake Halpern has delivered an excellent way to catch up: “The Cop.”
Readers: What new facts did you learn from this article?
[The article touches on a couple of issues that have previously appeared in this weblog. Darren Wilson isn’t highly employable currently. How do he and his wife pay the grocery bill? The 37-year-old wife retired from her police officer job and collects a public employee pension. She previously obtained custody of two children and presumably collects Missouri child support. As has become standard for a lot of American child support plaintiffs, she secured a custody victory with a domestic violence allegation against the father of one of her children (Missouri’s child support formula makes two children more profitable when they have different fathers). What happened to the gun-carrying police officer who was patrolling some of the country’s toughest neighborhoods? “Barb testified in court that John ‘pulled my hair,’ ‘choked me,’ and ‘punched me in the face.'”]
This article just reeks of liberal/progressive bias. Brown robs a convenience store? Hey, it’s ok because his friend claims they were talking about God and he didn’t use a gun. Brown prevents Wilson from getting out of his car? Hey, it’s OK because young black men see the police as an occupying force. Brown punches Wilson in the face? WHY WOULD HE DO THIS? HE MUST HAVE BEEN PROVOKED! Wilson says Brown looked like a demon? Clearly this is indicative of systemic racism and not the fact that this 300 lb guy was trying to pancake his face. Brown is shot while advancing on Wilson, a fact confirmed by the fact that all the bullet holes are in the front. Obviously this is because he has trouble empathizing with the pain of black men and nothing to do with the fact that a huge, angry man who punched him in the face not 10 seconds ago is charging him.
This article simply dilutes attention from real police violence like the shooting in S.C.
Article seems to go out of its way to paint Wilson as;
1. Racist
2. Totally justified in the shooting
In the end it comes off as a very balanced article. I wonder if the author inflated one of the two points just to ensure the article came off as balanced.
I just watched “The Fugitive” for the second time. As the federal marshals walk away from their visit to Sykes’ (the one armed man’s) house, one of them mentions to Gerard, “this guy is really dirty.”
But I guess they are on our team, right?
Well, only one thing can be said for certain. Michael Brown hasn’t robbed or beaten anyone in the last year.
Her claims might well be true, given that 40% of LEO households self-report domestic violence when anonymously asked. Think about that for a moment.
I learned everything a week after the shooting. The facts were revealed, anyway. After that, it was just a matter of watching to see how much leftists were willing to spread lies to encourage race riots.
