In the old days a successful politician could say, well, impolitic things and then, after a bit of reflection, write a more delicate and filtered version. Voters would see only the written version. Today, however, a huge percentage of the time a politician is being recorded electronically. A minor slip can be replayed on national TV 20 years later by an opponent.
Thus the only people who are practically qualified to be politicians are those who managed to filter every spoken sentence before it goes out. “Frankly, we do give a damn: The relationship between profanity and honesty” (Feldman, et al. 2016; Social Psychological and Personality Science) says that people who use profanity are more likely to be honest.
Ergo we will elect an increasing percentage of liars?
nobody seemed too upset with “grab em by the pussy” except for a bunch of fake outrage by the left and snowflakes.
What toucan sam said. These “gaffes” only hurt people who try to adhere to The Narrative. If you make clear that you don’t care about The Narrative, you can get away with decades of outrageous utterances. Like the current President.
Good God. Now the Yellow Peril is the norm.
Pepe: It wasn’t an “outrageous utterance”, it was boasting about an actual history of felony sex assaults.
toucan sam: “nobody seemed too upset with “grab em by the pussy”…”
I think you mean nobody at the sex offender halfway house.
Looking backwards in history to find something comparable you have to skip over all the fascists all the way to Vlad the Impaler or even Caligula to find comparable depravity. What boggles the mind is that some of his followers actually claim to be moral! Can you believe that!
Wow – all the way back to “Vlad the Impaler?”
I thought Madonna has been grabbing her own pussy for a while now.
@ZZAZZ
I see that you subscribe to the narrative. Trump has never admitted to any sexual assault.
“sex offender halfway house” is that even a thing?
that conversation which Trump & Billy Bush didn’t realize was being recorded was unfortunate, but I think there are certain men (and women) who joke around more than the average. Better not to take them too seriously. The only known bullying Trump has done in women’s presence is teasing them about their weight (which is weird since he’s steadily gained weight since the 1990s). Voters who hated Hillary enough figured it was banter on the more brash side, but not how Trump spends all his time. As Craig implies above, there is so much “pussy grabbing” and “crotch grabbing” (all the way back to the 1960s with Mick Jagger, albeit more tame than other rock stars more recently) that it’s hard to fault Trump for joking around about that. Unfortunate he was recorded without his knowledge. He was more careful about his language when on Howard Stern’s show, but many things Stern said were far, far worse (and he’s still on the Sirius Radio).
