“Would You Agree to Sex with a Total Stranger?” (Psychology Today, June 28, 2017) contains some surprising data:
Twenty years later, Hald and Høgh-Olesen (2010) largely replicated these findings in Denmark, with 59 percent of single men and 0 percent of single women agreeing to a stranger’s proposition, “Would you go to bed with me?” Interestingly, they also asked participants who were already in relationships, finding 18 percent of men and 4 percent of women currently in a relationship responded positively to the request.
Being married/partnered made a man much less likely to agree to have sex with a stranger, but made a woman more likely!
[Of course we have to consider the possibility that women who are more likely to agree to have sex with strangers are more likely to get married/partnered.]
Oh lord. What is the confidence interval for either result? ‘cuz 4% might well be well within a 95% confidence interval (or even a more stringent one!) of the reported ‘0’ in the unmarried sample. There is a reason why all that faff is not science.
Looks like that the citation in the original post does not try to predict behavior, it just states results of questioning. Do not see any statistics unless it is in the original research link. Agree of this staff being not science or anything useful. It should not be funded by public money.
from the source (scraping the journalistic faff):
“relationship status was found to be a significant and strong moderating variable of consent for both men and women. Thus, men and women who are not in a relationship are significantly more likely to agree to a sexual invitation than those who are in a relationship.”
So we found out that men are dogs, while women look for romance and long term relationship as opposed to a quickie.
What else is new?
@Preaidentpicker all we proved is that people respond the way they are *supposed to.*
I know plenty of women who will fuck a stranger, provided he exceeds their personal hotness threshold and comes in below the creep line.
I remember back in the 70’s my dad telling me about a friend of his that used to use that exact method to sleep with women. He would just endlessly ask women on the street and played the percentages. If you ask enough…
Pretty normal for Denmark. US is the puritan of puritans, unique in holding marriage & monogamy in high esteem.
Now to see if it will be replicated or forgotten
