What’s interesting about the iPhone X for photographers?

The “telephoto” camera is finally more than a gimmick on the iPhone X? What else is improved for photographers on this new phone? Apple didn’t go for a bigger sensor or do anything else dramatic, did they?

  1. the 3d sensor that lets you screw around with lighting is something photographers may find useful.

  2. iPhone 8 Plus telephoto camera is still not stabilized. iPhone X – both stabilized, also better flash.

  5. The IR dot projector is so close to the IR camera, it’s only useful for face mapping, gesture recognition, & mapping small objects in 3D. The rear camera is still 2D only. Many startups will be using the IR camera, but only recent MIT students are going to get into those startups. Note what Samsung started is becoming normal: screens which aren’t rectangular. The day is coming when all screens fill whatever odd shape is available.

    “Only MIT students are going to get to startups that using IPhone camera”!? Even old people like myself worked on it. I have seen kids from community colleges, taught by real world programmers adjuncts or self-taught, doing amazing well with technical tasks. What development you are reffering too?

  8. Apple DID go for a bigger (and faster) sensor. Also a better flash and a new “color filter”.
