  1. Maybe Patty will talk about her DUI on the grounds of Oshkosh as an example of when she lost control!

  2. toucan sam: I’m not sure that it makes sense to try to get through a whole week at EAA Airventure completely sober! Also… would you feel safer flying with me or flying with a slightly tipsy Patty Wagstaff?

  3. That is a great point! Here is a little secret, I go to Oshkosh every year with a group of about 30. In order for our group to all park together we ignore the ground controllers and immediately taxi to a predesignated place on the north 40. Immediately upon shutdown we are handed a beer. When the EAA comes by and asks us to move our planes we say we will in 8 hours after it is legal. This strategy has worked for about 30 years! To answer your question it would probably depend on the type of aircrafr. A slightly tipsy Patty Wagstaff would probably be safer in an extra or Pitts. For a more complicated plane say a light twin, turbo prop or jet I would choose a stone cold sober Phil. For the cirrus it’s probably a toss up, pull early and pull often they say!

  4. Thank you for the vote of confidence, Toucan Sam! Ms. Wagstaff would have to be quite plastered indeed before I would agree that it made sense for me to land the taildragger in a crosswind.

Your Oshkosh plan is brilliant! I hope that your spot is close to the Hilton Garden Inn! That is a convenient escape from the rain.

I’m actually planning to fly the SR20 there this year. Perhaps we can all meet? I fear that we will be right at gross weight, however, so there will be no alcoholic beverages on board.

  5. Actually it is right near the Hilton Garden Inn. Many of our group stays at the Hilton for the first few nights. Usually before Monday night it is only 80 bucks a night then we are kicked out for the VIPs such as yourself and Ms. Wagstaff! We are also airport tenants so we can help out with logistical things, including alcoholic beverages! Will you be parking on the Hilton ramp?
