Our media and my Facebook feed are both jammed with images of health care workers getting vaccinated against COVID-19 (but a lot of them should be among the roughly one third of Americans who’ve already had the infection).
“Mass. Prisoners Among The First To Get COVID Vaccines” (WBUR):
Among those first in line for the COVID-19 vaccine in Massachusetts are correction workers and the nearly 13,000 people incarcerated in jails and prisons in the state.
Massachusetts is one of six states to specifically include prisoners in the first phase of vaccinations…
Why no photos of happy convicts?
(Separately, does this make sense? Why aren’t prisoners likely to be among the 100+ million Americans who’ve already had at least an asymptomatic infection? Would it be more efficient to find Mask Karens whose phone mobility data show that they’ve been hiding in bunkers and give them the vaccine first? (also weight the virtuousness of their Facebook posts and assume that those who’ve been promoting mask use are the least likely to have become immune the natural way))

Yup. There are a few people who are going to have anaphylactic reactions. All vaccines cause some anaphylactic reactions, usually on the order of 1 per million, but it remains to be seen how many we’ll have with these newer mRNA based vaccines – since we’ve *never done it before* for any coronavirus, and never before with mRNA to my knowledge.
Some people die of bee stings, too. My mother cannot tolerate bee stings, she’s gone into shock once because of them. It’s not a reason not to get the vaccine unless the numbers go up dramatically and you’re prone to anaphylactic reactions.

Although allergic reactions are a common concern for vaccine providers, these reactions are uncommon and anaphylaxis following vaccines is rare, occurring at a rate of approximately one per million doses for many vaccines (5). Epinephrine and equipment for managing an airway should be available for immediate use
@GB called it, and it’s not that surprising, but I agree there should be photos of the happy prisoners. ACLU.

Here’s the ACLU Massachusetts page about it:

Their vulnerability in incarceration trumps all your other concerns. It makes sense to the ACLU and therefore that is what is happening.
I’m often not a fan of the extreme left, but it is true that the government is forcing these people to be incarcerated (granted, this is usually, but not always due to actions on their part) which forces them to live in a high-risk manner. So it makes sense to help mitigate the risk.
I saw a headline that 80% of inmates who died of COVID in Texas had not been convicted of any crime.
Concern over “cruel and unusual punishment” and protection of the rights of the accused have been an integral part of American legal and political discourse since the founding of the republic. This is probably something that both conservatives and liberals could agree on.
@M-M-M-M-M-M-M-Myeee Corona:
I think it’s probably wise policy – for a politician – to do them first and avoid the uproar if they were vaccinated last. Politicians want to avoid as much trouble as they can, and the ACLU is a large, well-funded group of left-wing lunatics who would absolutely shit all over the Governor of Massachusetts (and other states) if he didn’t prioritize prisoners. They’ve been the most-valued population throughout this entire pandemic, because everybody at a Law School you could go to values the ACLU more than anyone else. So he didn’t have much choice.
From my perspective, if they can avoid releasing more of them because the ACLU cares so much about their health and welfare, great. Let them have the vaccine first.
With perpetual lockdowns, aren’t we all prisoners of the state without benefit of trial?
Biden-supporters on Facebook say that they’re not under house arrest. They have the freedom to see their friends as much as they want on Zoom. Their lockdown is temporary. (If they believe what they are saying, there should be no issue with life prison sentences for even the most minor crimes, so long as prisoners have access to Zoom, because there are no negatives to being locked down).
Loosely related: Tom Cruise finds the real mission of acting impossible without yelling and screaming…

I think he needs to summon the spirit of L. Ron Hubbard and ask his deepest question: does he believe in this Western Medicine, and should he get the shot through his publicist?
