Coronascience: pack a plane to 100 percent capacity and then have everyone de-mask simultaneously

“18 US Orthodox Jewish girls kicked off a Delta-KLM flight following a COVID-19 protocols dispute, reports say” (Business Insider):

Eighteen Orthodox Jewish girls were barred from boarding a Delta flight from Amsterdam to New York on Thursday because of a dispute on a KLM flight about COVID-19 protocols, according to reports.

The passengers breached the protocols by taking their masks off to eat their own food outside of the designated mealtimes, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Despite my general adherence to the Swedish level of coronapanic, if I could take over as dictator of the U.S. and issue executive orders, my first order to would to make it illegal for airlines to sell the middle seat, except to families traveling together.

  1. Typical mindless Dutch authoritarianism. Whoever sticks out gets hammered in; apart from the ruling classes in The Netherlands (old money + royalty) of course.

  2. I understand that this is said in jest, but…

Really? Your first executive order would address middle seats?

Can we conclude from this post that you are losing your ability to think outside the box?

  3. That’s not actually why they kicked them off the plane. They were kicked off the plane because they were visibly Jewish. I’ve had my own experiences with KLM staff noticing my Jewish name and suddenly changing their level of service from “smiling helpful” to “sod off and die”, so the girls’ description of the incident doesn’t sound like much of a stretch, whereas the airline’s description sounds like, well, quite a stretch.

    • Have you ever heard of hasbara? Maybe, when people notice your “Jewish name,” (quotes because we’re already making a leap of faith here about the internal mental state of a stranger,) it is incumbent on you to make sure that they remember you as a friendly soul. (Instead of, say, someone who rushes to assign blame and motives of racially-prejudiced hatred to others.)
