Here’s a photo of an unhoused person sleeping next to a classic Volkswagen Microbus used to advertise the availability, for those with money, of sparkling new apartments:
Housing is a human right, say the folks who live in the Bay Area, but somehow they never reduce their personal consumption in order to build housing for the unhoused.
The Specialized bicycle company’s seed capital came from selling a VW Microbus.
Given the high values of old VW’s lately, that could also go a significant way toward purchasing a condominium in a low cost area.
A typical leftist recognizes only his own right to rob productive people to fund his pet causes (which usually amount to supplying bums with means to stay bums). This act makes him feel all virtuous and warm inside.
The Bay Area in general attracts a lot of migrants from outside of California, where citizens are considerably less tolerant of the unhoused pitching tents in their parks and sidewalks. See South Park episode on the same.
Most of this is drug addiction or mental health issues. It cannot be fixed via sound bite.
Look at the bright side, unlike the illegal migrant, an unhoused person does not cost anywhere near what it takes to take care of an illegal migrant.
Florida took the giant step today to ban homeless camping on the streets. (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/desantis-signs-bill-banning-homeless-encampments-public-sleeping-in-florida/ar-BB1kf93k)
Does this mean this individual would be breaking the law in Florida?
JJ: I’m confused by this new law. I would have thought it was already against local and county laws to camp in the streets here in Florida. It looks like West Palm Beach didn’t have a law against this until 2021: https://www.wpbdna.com/camping_petition
The good news is that anyone affected by this ban can get a bus ticket to California and get whatever he/she/ze/they needs. In fact, Californian just voted for $6.4 billion in additional spending on the unhoused. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/mar/20/california-prop-1-passes-homelessness-mental-health-system
Miami has a prohibition that might go back to 1967: https://library.municode.com/fl/miami/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=PTIITHCO_CH37OFIS_S37-3SLSTSIET
Sec. 37-3. – Sleeping on streets, sidewalks, etc.
It shall be unlawful for any person to sleep on any of the streets, sidewalks, public places or upon the private property of another without the consent of the owner thereof.
(Code 1967, § 38-49; Code 1980, § 37-63)
I am against these laws if they don’t come with an offer of state-funded transportation to California, Maskachusetts, New York, or some other place where shelter is guaranteed.
Another tour of Calif* complete. The lion kingdom was in New York when this blog post aired, where all the drinking fountains are turned off, supposedly to keep the homeless from moving in. Surprised they can’t build a 2nd world trade center tower for housing.
