2024 will be remembered, I think, as one of the best years ever for progressive Jewish American Democrats. Last month’s election could have been improved, of course, but the pain of that loss is more than made up for the fact that Hanukkah and Kwanzaa are almost perfectly aligned this year. The first full day of Hanukkah is December 26, which is also when the Harris family traditionally lit the first candle of the kinara during the 1960s when it became one of the first adopters of Maulana Karenga‘s new holiday (like Donald Trump, Professor Dr. Karenga, Ph.D. beat more women than Doug Emhoff. Because of prejudice against the Black man, however, Karenga was imprisoned for kidnapping and torturing women rather than being elevated to the Presidency).
How about a Christmas wish that Donald Trump will begin the healing process for our divided nation by bringing Kamala Harris into his administration as Kwanzaa Czar? Other than Maulana Ndabezitha Karenga (born Ronald McKinley Everett), there doesn’t seem to be anyone better qualified.
What about a job for Doug Emhoff? Claiming to be a victim of domestic violence is one way for a migrant to obtain asylum here in the U.S. (see “Biden administration reverses Trump-era asylum policies” (Politico, 2021)). Mx. Emhoff could be an asylum court administrative judge evaluating tales of who slapped whom in the privacy of a home 8,000 miles away.
Finally, let’s remember how much seemingly different groups of people actually have in common. The following diagram should be helpful and inspiring:
In case the above tweet is memory-holed:
Probably should start out as “2024 will be remembered,” “remember” is in the wrong tense in your article. On a separate note Merry Xmas to all of the queers for Palestine. From the river to the sea Palestine will be free!
2024 will be remembered for the appointment of President Elon Musk, our plans have worked and we have a Canadian in the White House!
As President-Appointed Elon would say “Go and multiply this holiday season, because the birth rate is falling!”

A note to readers’ Pavel is a foreigner who has admitted to “election interference” ! When will the menace from the North stop?
Still no photos of the Greenspun mansion, but it wouldn’t be surprising to find a Hamas terrorist head on the tree.
PhilG is being a sour winner. you should start celebrating your party/man victory instead you are obsessed with democrats , especially with Biden/Kamala and black people.
Anon: The Republicans are NOT my party! There isn’t a single legitimate politician in the U.S. who agrees with my core political belief, i.e., that Americans should have to work for 8 years prior to voting (as was the case in the early days of our republic; men started work at 13 and started voting at 21). There are some things that I can appreciate about Donald Trump, such as his 2017 tax law that mostly put an end to the multinational U.S. companies, such as Apple, paying no corporate tax (via exotic offshore structures). But he was wishy-washy during coronapanic (unlike Ron DeSantis!) and he failed to seal the border despite having a $1 trillion/year military at his disposal. I would have preferred to see Ron DeSantis elected.
@PhilG Ron DeSantis is a republican and I do not see you liking/endorsing or even considering any Democrat or any Democratic policies. Hence you are a Republican and your party is Republican.
Anon: According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Results_of_the_2024_Republican_Party_presidential_primaries Ron DeSantis earned 1.59% of Republican primary votes. So I’m aligned with at least 1 percent of Republicans!
I wrote at least one blog post that praises the rationality of one of the Democrats’ core thought leaders:

I wonder if everyone’s favorite member of Congress has figured out that the immigration of Amazon into Manhattan is likely to be a net negative for most of her constituents. Plainly, property owners will be better off. There will be more demand for office space, retail space, and apartments.
What about renters? Consider the school teacher, age 32, who has been working for NYC Public Schools since graduating college at age 22 and has earned an online master’s degree. If I’m reading the salary schedule right, this puts the teacher at $87,160 per year. If the teacher has no children, earning $87,160 is above the eligibility limit for public housing.
Why is the teacher better off after Amazon moves in? The teacher’s salary is set by union contract and won’t go up. Amazon was forecast to pay an average of $150,000 per year. This is great news for the teacher’s landlord, who now has 25,000+ new potential renters earning $150,000 per year. Why is it great news for the teacher?
Maybe Bill Clinton could be considered a Democrat, despite his failure to promote Rainbow Flagism (he signed the Defense of Marriage Act). I don’t mind praising Bill Clinton’s decision to sign the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxpayer_Relief_Act_of_1997 , which cut the federal capital gains tax rate from 28 percent to 20 percent (the latter is the percentage that I think makes sense for most taxes; anything higher than 20 percent and the distortion of human behavior is huge). It would have been better if he’d cut it to 20 percent and also added an inflation adjustment (so that Americans didn’t end up paying taxes on investments that turned out to be losses after considering inflation). But one can’t demand rational laws and regulations!
In the 20 years of lurking in this site, this is the single most hilarious image I’ve ever seen posted.
At least you don’t have a pussy wheel!
That diagram reminds me of required corporate training from Harvsrd graduates who were sharing the latest scientific findings of their Harvard PI professor
The company was well-known Wall Street firm, I was willified for questioning their idiotic training. Our trainers were completely brainwashed and could not master language skills to answer my questions. Interesting, my main willifier left the company first, with funny resignation email. Guess he had seen the light after all. I was separated from the company shortly after, a year before corporate failings became a matter for criminal investigators.
Philip, you used to be associated with Harvard, are you sharing insights gained while at Harvard?
