Rainbow Flag vs. American Flag at the South Street Seaport

I visited the South Street Seaport for the first time in years and discovered that it has kept up with the times. The sacred Rainbow Flag is worshipped at a height of 4X the height of the American flag (Rainbow Flag at the very top of the mast of the museum ship while the American Flag is about one quarter of the way up).

The worshippers can’t seem to decide on which sect of the 2SLGBTQQIA+ religion they are following. A Biden-style trans-enhanced Rainbow Flag is flown from the front of the ship while a classic non-trans Rainbow Flag is flown from the mast near the stern. Views from the top of the building are superb:

The Tin Building includes a hidden-behind-curtains-at-the-back-of-a-tea-shop restaurant:

  1. Lovely scenes devoid of macroscopic life. O Gothsm, thy lovers desert thee.

Is the bar with customers’ bras on the ceiling still around?

    • > devoid of macroscopic life

Wharf rats are macroscopic life, you just can’t see them here. The only bigger wharf rats I ever saw were in Barrington, RI. Again, Gotham looks like The Magic Kingdom, compared to the days of yore.

  2. FWIW: The rules/etiquette for flags on maritime vessels are complex and different from fixed land ones:

    > Contrary to the belief that the ensign should be the highest flag on a vessel, the position of precedence and honor on a sailing vessel is the aftmost position. The only exception to this is that no flag should fly higher than the ensign when mounted on the same halyard as the ensign.

The rainbow flag might be a personal pennant, IDK. There are also guidelines for flag size. I mean, your point still stands, but just to clarify. Apparently a ride on one of these ships around the Statue of Liberty is about $70–might be fun. You could ask the captain why the ship is wearing the rainbow flags.

    • T#1: Thanks for this reference. It would be interesting to know why the old-style Rainbow Flag is flown at the top/rear of the ship while the Biden-style trans-enhanced Rainbow Flag is lower and near the bow!

  3. > It would be interesting to know

Yarr, tis somethin’ that I *not* be knowin’, good sir/madam/xhir.
