Looting good; fucking bad

Boeing’s CEO seems to have gotten fired for “having it off” (as the Brits say) with a fellow employee.  The message this sends to me is that Fortune 500 company boards will tolerate and facilitate managers who indulge in looting but not those who indulge in fucking.  These are perilous times for investors…

  2. “causing emberasment” is enough to be fired. So what if he was doing a press conference and, ehrm, fartet. Loud.

    That’s a totaly arbitrary rule, which can pretty much be applied to anyone and anything at any time.

    OK for overpaid executives who earn enough in a year to retire on but the rights of mere mortals could easily be abused this way.

  3. Companies do not need a reason to fire an employee. Most situations are “employment at will.” I was fired once and the reason was explained simply as “There is only enough money for one engineer and my brother moved back into town and needs a job.”

  4. Yeah, but corporate looting usually benefits all of the board members, where as corporate screwing only benefits the guy in bed.

  6. Puritanism is strange (as is its conjoined twin Hypocrisy). Bill Clinton lied about fucking Monica, and the Sanctimonious Puritans put him and the entire country through an impeachment circus. George W. Bush lied repeatedly about doing to the country (“and tomorrow the world”) what Clinton did to Monica; and for that he got re-elected with a Mandate For Morality and Heartland Values.

    Now that the Greedy Old Party is in firm control (with a Mandate For Morality and Heartland Values), Greed is the America’s Cardinal Virtue. CEOs, being Virtuous by virtue of their position at the apex of the Neo-Feudal Hierarchy, are lavishly rewarded for raping, looting, and plundering– as long as the rape and plunder is purely financial and perpetrated in the name of Greed Almighty, America’s True Heartland Value. But commit a sexual indiscretion and out come the Sanctimonious Puritans, their wagging fingers aflame, to bring them down for committing a truly unforgivable sin.

    With such Family Values abundantly on display, it’s no wonder that America is the laughingstock of the world.
