Single-handedly saving the U.S. economy! What will be the net economic effect of this additional job created?
It’s official! The recession is over!
Happy to know the business is expanding.
Folks: The business is not expanding due to an improved economy. It is expanding because we discovered the power of marketing through Groupon and sold 2600 intro lessons. The number of inquiries that we get from customers through pre-existing marketing channels, such as Web pages, is well below the levels of 2007 and early 2008.
I think you’re on to something with this Groupon thing. They just raised a new round of financing which values them at $1.2 billion. A bit overvalued as Silicon Valley tech/internet companies usually are, but gives a good indicator nonetheless.

How about a Phil G. Internship for Next Generation Marketing?
Unpaid college position to do some rigorous thinking and design-of-experiment work on how to market and promote the club’s services, starting this summer.
Surely you could find someone in Cambridge who’d jump at an opportunity like that.
You’ve been on the record for at least 15 years indicating the direction of computing was the creation of communities.
What does the community of potential purchasers of your services look like, and how do you interact with them effectively?
Rellag: I think that is too tough a challenge for a summer intern. Flight training nationwide is moribund. Americans who are rich enough to buy a $50,000 SUV will not, in any significant numbers, come down to the local airport and spend $5,000 on a pilot’s certificate course. The successful flight schools are generally training foreigners who will go back to India, Brazil, or China and work for their booming airline industry. I don’t think that better online services will change this.
