Highs and lows of American culture

I went to the White Mountains this weekend to see the foliage and encountered some of the highs and lows of American culture.

For the high point, see the photo below of a nice-looking Swiss watch, pinned up at the Piper Trail trailhead parking lot. It has been there for a week waiting for its rightful owner. No other hiker has been tempted to appropriate it. For the low, check out the photos below of the restroom entrance at one of the most popular stops along the Kancamagus Highway. Apparently bathrooms are not an essential government service…

  1. I was just reading how the Administration has closed down the Amber Alert website. Seems pretty vindictive to me.

I find it interesting that Congress immediately votes that all Federal Government workers will receive back pay, essentially turning the shutdown into a Federal holiday. If they were going to do this, why couldn’t they order the workers back and tell them they would get payed when the shutdown is over?

It becomes more obvious every day that the real problem isn’t Democrats vs Republicans; it’s the Federal Government against the citizens.

  2. Al is absolutely correct. This is what happens when government gets so big it decides it doesn’t serve the people anymore.

  3. The point of the shutdown is to be irritation theater. What better way of irritating people than hitting them where they go?

  4. Overall americans are more honest about lost wallets and such than most of us think.

It’s true that we’re hard on vending machines and mass shootings are on the rise but overall we are getting better behaved as the criminal generation known as the baby boomers mellows out and disappears.
