My new drone will be arriving in February 2016 according to Kickstarter. This is the first consumer product of Helen Greiner’s latest company: CyPhy Works. At roughly 1/500th the price of a helicopter and a camera it seems as though it will be worth a try. Go Helen! (grad school classmate)

You are braver than I am. The FAA seems to be so impossible to predict and has said they will take action again licensed pilots that fly drones in any manner than they think is a violation of invisible regulations. It killed all my interest.
I hope this Kickstarter works out better than the ZPM Espresso machine:

Kickstarter “donations” don’t guaranty that you will ever actually get the product.
2¢ — There is a big future in drones. The practical use list is endless. One I’ve been looking at is crop dusting fields full of wind turbines. Smart flesh and blood pilots won’t do it. Drones can be programed to avoid the wind wheels. At least that’s the plan. We shall see.
Greiner & Co. have a good track record for getting products out the door. That said, I still wouldn’t hold your breath in 2/16. Anything involving molded plastic is tricky.
One KickStarter I tried promised delivery for Christmas 2012. I did finally get the product in March…of 2014. Added irony was the outfit’s name: “L8”.
Be careful. The FAA is on the record saying that they will enforce their drone regs, whatever they are, against certificated pilots more forcefully than they will the general public.
I truly think we are seeing the beginning of the end for typical helicopter aerial photo flights. I fly helis and seeing these drones making such headway in nearly all aerial applications seems inevitable.
Other than a drone having a camera, can someone tell me what’s the difference between a Done and RC Helicopter [1] for the FFA not getting involved with RC Helicopters but will with Drones? Is the camera the reason? If so, why, if not than the FFA has some explaining to do.
PS: I know nothing about flying, FFA, drones, etc. but reading comments about FFA getting involved just doesn’t add up when you throw in the mix RC Helicopters (as an example).

I sponsored the Flying B on Kickstarter. Fun combo.
