The dreary world of the software expert witness sometimes intersects with a fun city to visit. This weekend it will be Seattle! Who would like to meet for coffee on Saturday morning, February 24, at or near the Fairmont Olympic hotel?
Alternatively, what about an excursion to the Flying Heritage museum up at Paine Field? I’m planning to go up there on Sunday morning to see what all of my Windows license fees have paid for!
Comment here and/or email me if interested in getting together.
[Decided: Fairmont Olympic lobby at 8:30 am for coffee on Saturday!]
Hmm yes! If they’re putting you up at the Olympic, maybe I too should become an expert witness.
Please email me.
Coffee in Seattle to me = Espresso Vivace (near the REI – about 16 blocks) or a Cherry Street Coffee House (4 blocks north from Olympic hotel next to Nordstrom).
email if that works out.
Scott: Won’t the hotel lobby cafe or whatever, despite its presumptively inferior coffee, be quieter for conversation than Cherry Street?
Phil,
Yeah the Fairmont lobby is pretty quiet during the day, perfect for conversation. Wish I was in town but will be flying out that morning. Enjoy.
For an enjoyable commentary on coffee culture, though, you probably should try and visit the Starbucks Reserve Roastery a quick 15 minute hike from the Fairmont. The Disney of corporate coffee.
How long do you plan to stay near Paine Field on Sunday?
The Flying Heritage museum is great, but Paine Field has a lot of other things to offer. The Future of Flight provides a tour of Boeing’s wide-body aircraft plant in Everett(link: https://www.futureofflight.org/ ). The Historic Flight Foundation(located on the other side of Paine Field from Flying Heritage) also has an impressive array of flying vintage aircrafts(link: http://historicflight.org/hf/ ). Finally, the Museum of Flight in Seattle actually has a restoration center in Paine Field(link: http://www.museumofflight.org/Plan-Your-Visit/Tours-and-Experiences/Restoration-Tours ) that is opened to visitors. They did enough restoration work to enable an old Boeing 247 and the original 727 prototype to fly to Boeing Field to be displayed at the museum there. Visiting all of these places might take more than one day…
With regards to coffee, Everett is famous for its “Bikini Baristas”(and their encounters with local law enforcement). Not sure how they stack up when compared to coffee in Seattle…
Folks: Let’s do 0830 at the Fairmont Olympic then!
Liang: I am going to spend the whole day there on Sunday. I didn’t realize that Boeing tours were available on weekends. I did the tour years ago. I was planning to spend more time with ancient aircraft at those other museums on the field.
