I was gathered with friends, mostly from Brookline, Maskachusetts, to celebrate the marriage of a widow to a widower. In keeping with the spirit of this joyous occasion, I surveyed everyone on how they would have voted if they’d been on the jury in the Lindsay Clancy case.
All of the women except one young hater (conservative) would have voted to acquit (“not guilty by reason of insanity”, but the insanity was temporary and, therefore, the government would have no reason to detain her further). A Joe Biden Democrat in his mid-60s married to a Mamdani/AOC Democrat also voted to acquit (i.e., liberal male is the functional equivalent of “female”). A Brookline resident whose politics are driven by hatred of and contempt for Republicans and Trump also voted to acquit (“she’s already been punished enough”).
The remaining men all voted to convict Lindsay Clancy of at least some degree of murder. “Someone like that needs to be removed from society,” said a young man. “There has to be a consequence. Jeffrey Dahmer was psychotic, but he was still convicted,” said the boy’s father.
Half of the group were MDs and all had harsh words for the psychiatrists and psychologists who pumped Lindsay Clancy full of various medications (that said, nothing she was on had a known side effect of psychotic violence and it was unclear what she was actually taking from among the pills that she’d been prescribed).
(Based on my skimming of press coverage of the trial, I personally would have voted to convict her of the lowest degree of murder available. Her attempt to kill herself after the murders was certainly evidence of irrationality if not insanity and a first-degree murder is supposed to be rationally planned, I think. Maybe I would have voted differently if I’d heard all of the evidence and been instructed by the judge in the law.)
Based on this survey, I don’t think the Commonwealth will be able to convict Lindsay Clancy unless prosecutors can contrive a means of excluding female Democrats from the jury or, perhaps, reduce the maximum charge to something minor.
Update: I sat next to an 86-year-old lady on JetBlue SFO-FLL. She wasn’t a phone addict like everyone else and, therefore, we had a conversation. When the Lindsay Clancy trial was mentioned on her seatback TV, I asked Rhoda how she would have voted. “You put away a rabid dog so you have to do the same with a rabid person.”

Separately, the gathering of these Brookliners was actually in Silicon Valley. To make everyone from Massachusetts feel at home, the locals were kind enough to engage in outdoor masking (Menlo Park; under-nose Faucism):
(Quite a few indoor maskers, of course, as well, e.g., in retail establishments. There was, unfortunately, a serious dearth of social justice signage. People in Silicon Valley, apparently, care primarily about themselves and their money, unlike the virtuous folks in San Francisco and the East Bay.)
The outdoor marker also wears a hoody. Is it already cold in the Sillicon Valley? Or is he on his way to hold up a store? By the looks the only hold ups he does is those of shareholders.

Yes, the hoodie is strange. A filled backpack (not just a laptop) often means a homeless person. Some of them are surprisingly well-dressed.
I saw a handful of unhoused people in Menlo Park (the owners of the $5 million starter homes walked by with complete indifference). They all had a lot more gear than the subject of the above photo.
Stationary ones have a lot of gear. There are also more mobile ones, the kind that orate in front of public libraries. I was approached recently by a sensible, middle-class-looking, middle-aged Asian woman with a backpack. She turned out to be yet another schizophrenic homeless person.
But yes, he could also be a start-up billionaire. In the Bay Area, it is hard to tell.
Those are probably not the hands of a billionaire, though.
He could also be an honest day laborer. The hammer loop on his carpenter pants, the dust on his sleeve. They don’t normally mask, though.
Litigator friends have told me that the only thing the state needed to prove is that she was aware the act of strangling the children would put her in legal jeopardy. So insanity defense, even in Maskachusetts, seems to be for the type of person so loopy that they kill someone, the police show up, and they have no idea why the police are even there.

But in Massachusetts, the state has to prove that Clancy was not insane, and it must do so beyond a reasonable doubt.”
It should be easy to prove sanity. Lindsay Clancy chose to live in Massachusetts, a state that follows Science, provides life-saving abortion care, offers taxpayer-funded gender-affirming care for teens, etc. Had she been insane, she would have moved out of state. Had she been a raving lunatic, she would have moved to a Red State.

Gathered the $1/2M salary from an AI startup is a doctor lending his credentials to the branding of a language model. Biological experts above a certain level of certification are getting a boost. Minimum wage laborers labeling training data are also getting a boost. Everyone from 0-$400k is getting let go, as it was in 2001.
You might have cost me a friendship today Phil. I was making your “high oil prices are actually a good thing, will save the environment if people drive less” argument today to a very liberal friend of mine. So liberal she wants to leave America for how terrible it is.
When I make this argument the other side never gets my points about long-run effects (will over time increase density and create walkable neighborhoods due to reallocation away from car-centric infrastructure). The claim is always that people have to commute to work so they will be hit by it. But of course, people have to have fun with their discretionary trips which make up 80% of all of the usual trips.
And the main thing is to spend government money first, through building public transport and only then jacking up the price of owning cars. The chief concern is disabled people who have to drive everywhere right now. Forget about the non-disabled American who will adjust his behavior to compensate for an increase in gas prices
