Almost time for EAA AirVenture (“Oshkosh”), a safe space for pilots of light aircraft where nobody will say “That is a stupid hobby.”
I’m giving two talks:
- introduction to helicopter aerodynamics and operations (targeted at those with some airplane flying experience), at 8:30 am on Wednesday, July 27, Forum Stage 6
- Instrument Flying Ground School, Lesson 1 (using the materials previously offered here) where lessons 2 and 3 will follow as free Zoom classes. Wednesday, July 27, at 10:00 am, Forum Stage 6.
For background on the event, see a lunchtime talk from our MIT ground school class:
Might join your 8:30 seminar to remind you it is a stupid hobby! Takes one to know one.
I’d love to be there but unfortunately cannot attend. Do your “Slow: Children” MIT great job with the classes and of course take lots of pictures, please, and have fun!
Sorry, did not include the link:

Since you don’t work at East coast aero club anymore & don’t fly photographers around Mane anymore, going to Oshkosh is the only flight time.
where nobody will say “That is a stupid hobby.”
Nobody brings their spouse?
Thanks for all you do to “Give Back” to the aviation world and non-aviation world.
Will you take your aircraft to the event to further reiterate it is NOT a stupid hobby?
JJD – Watching from the sidelines
We are in the Cirrus right now in Tennessee. Indianapolis is the next stop. Appleton, Wisconsin and then rental car for the last few miles to Oshkosh. The VFR arrival is too uncertain for travel w family and IFR reservations require too much discipline around getting everyone ready.
See you there! I’ve come a long way since zoom ground school 18 months ago, so much more to learn and do. Oshkosh or bust!
