Joe Biden is not at risk from Long COVID

“What to know about Paxlovid, the COVID drug President Biden is using to speed recovery” (NPR) says that Joe Biden is sure to be back to his dynamic self soon. No possibility of “Long COVID” and associated “brain fog” is mentioned.

Last month, also from NPR, “Vaccination Nation: The Not-So-Long Odds Of Long COVID”:

According to a new report by the CDC, one in five COVID survivors under the age of 65 has experienced a health condition that could be considered long COVID. For seniors, that number rises to one in four.

So… the typical older American has a 25 percent chance of experiencing Long COVID while Joe Biden’s chance is 0 percent. Our leader will not suffer from brain fog.

A friend with a Ph.D., on hearing the news about Joe Biden’s COVID-19 situation:

Does he have Covid, cancer, dyslexia, dementia, or more? I have no idea.

Meanwhile, we visited Dollywood this week (en route to Oshkosh via Cirrus SR20). The crowds were manageable (much more so than in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which has 1/5th of the infrastructure that it needs to handle the volume of visitors), but it was still a crowded environment. We saw a family wearing masks. Father in a surgical mask. Son in a cloth mask. Mom wearing a chin diaper. They were concerned enough about COVID-19 to wear masks, but not concerned enough to refrain from visiting a jammed theme park. My personal solution for keeping safe from COVID-19 is to avoid obesity via consuming all-natural pork rinds. Here is the Dollywood pork rind operation:

(In fairness, the rate of obesity at Dollywood seems to be lower than at Disney World.)

  1. It’s great to “follow along” on the trip to EAA. Thanks for the Dollywood review and “tips” in the park.

  2. Philip, this is actually true!

In the same way that Admiral Rachel Levine is immune to ovarian cancer, Joe Biden is immune to Long COVID, which is fatigue and brain fog, because he already has advanced dementia!

    • Yes, when risk has been already realized it is no longer a risk!
      The story of my life.

    • Dave: I am going to write it up. Better in most ways than Disney. People love working there and it shows. Unlike Disney, however, they’re all locals. If you’re a coasterhead the skip-the-line pass is reasonably priced. Some of the coasters are frightening in scale. The old steam train is cool! Unlike at Disney, they have enough restaurants and counter-serve places so you can get food.

    • Oh yes, the one musician you’ll seldom hear at Dollywood, live or recorded, … Dolly Parton. She uses her venue and fame to promote the next generation.

  3. It’s good to know the President’s usual mental sharpness won’t be impaired.

    > They were concerned enough about COVID-19 to wear
    > masks, but not concerned enough to refrain from
    > visiting a jammed theme park.

It’s fascinating to get a glimpse of the thinking among the devout coronafaithful, for example here where a believer recounts their tragic fall from grace: “I am super cautious [but not so cautious as to avoid travelling] … wore 3M Aura N95’s everywhere I had to go inside … trying to avoid public transportation … didn’t go shopping … got all food delivered to me … I got covid.”

Virtually everyone on the forum is a multiply-jabbed mask wearer who caught covid. This does not in the least dent their faith in the holy rituals of syringe and face covering. What’s a faith for if it can’t survive a test or two?

  4. The brain fog of long covid sure sounds a lot like dementia. No one will notice, or we will very quickly see a 25th amendment maneuver.

  5. Biden and I share something- I also got Covid this week. Vaccinated and double boosted. It started with shivering then had headaches, sinus aches, ear aches, and nausea. I am better on day 6, but tired and kranky. Today I noticed I have no sense of smell and reduced taste. Wife is also sick now as well. I guess we’re lucky it happened before our trip to Florida, but I am really bummed out about the loss of smell/taste. I was looking forward to stuffing myself with american pizza, fresh salsa with tortilla chips, cuban food, the elusive Chik-fil-A, and all sorts of unhealthy culinary pleasures only the USA can offer on a daily basis. I really hope it improves soon because I can’t imagine missing out on all that food!

    • Many Americans ( proles in particular ) have problems with maintaining a proper weight. So if they get Covid and lose smell and taste, that help with weight loss and presumably things like lower blood sugars. So using some sort of logic, Covid could be considered as part of a healthy lifestyle.

  6. “Dr” Phil once claimed that people in Florida don’t care about Covid, don’t think about Covid, and apparently don’t get infected by Covid. It must be because he lives within the 10 mile protective cocoon of the deified orange king’s glow.

“Dr” Phil continues to make up for every one else in the state by spending 30% of his waking minutes thinking about Covid.

    • This is why I think so much TV nowadays is unrealistic. E.g. the latest season of Curb Your Enthusiasm where they acknowledged that the pandemic occurred but are now pretending that it’s over. It’s gone from being a realistic program based on real-life situations to being set in a fantasy land where people aren’t constantly discussing/arguing with their family and friends, “should we wear masks,” “should we go out to eat,” “should we take rapid tests before we hang out,” etc. Before we had Trump occupying people’s mental energy and making it hard to think or talk about anything else, now we have Trump *and* COVID!

    • @Ryan, there used to be a time when TV:

      A) Reported news in black-and-white and as-is, with NO “opinions” or “influencer” BS.
      B) Had educational and science programs with NO “apocalypse” scare BS.
      C) Had all kind of shows with NO political or social “correctness” BS.

Just look at the January 6 hearing, what a show! Are we learning anything new that we don’t know already? Are we making changes that are desperately needed to make a difference? Are the 2000 to 2500 who entered the capital unlawfully armed with everything from pipes and flagpoles to chemical sprays [1] were enough to cause a coup as the media and politician are calling it a “coup” [2]?

@Mike, I wish our politician and leaders would spend 10%, not 30%, of there waking minutes to deal with the high rate of high school drop-off and poor education quality kids are getting from public school. I guess liberals are so worried about the 2 year COVIDFear and “brain fog” but no so much about the decades of dummying down the next generation that will define America.

Don’t you agree that we need a “Jan 6” hearing holding out educators, leaders and public schools responsible for the poor quality they are producing? Shouldn’t there be a “coup” against public school?

  7. It seems the media prefers to emphasize Joe’s virility, vs the possibility that he caught one of the “mild” circulating strains (say, omicron). Media is also pushing for boosters, for a disease so mild even 80 year olds can work through it, apparently.

  8. Has Kenji Yamamoto been punished yet for publishing his heretical article ? I did not find any criticism so far:

Recently, The Lancet published a study on the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines and the waning of immunity with time. The study showed that immune function among vaccinated individuals 8 months after the administration of two doses of COVID-19 vaccine was lower than that among the unvaccinated individuals. According to European Medicines Agency recommendations, frequent COVID-19 booster shots could adversely affect the immune response and may not be feasible.
    […]
As a safety measure, further booster vaccinations should be discontinued.
