Pinballnomics: How long did it take for the Limited Edition Jaws machine to sell out?

In October 2022, the James Bond 007 LE pinball machine from Stern sold out in about 45 seconds.

Let’s take the pulse of the economy by looking at Stern’s latest release: Jaws. Just after 1:00 pm on January 4, 2024:

By 1:05 pm:

It’s possible that it sold out prior to 1:05 because with the James Bond machine people reported adding it to their carts and being unable to check out.

The Jaws machine is actually cheaper than Bond was: $12,999 in 2022 dollars versus $12,999 in 2024 dollars. Bond might be considered a more desirable theme, but Jaws was designed by superstar Keith Elwin, the genius behind Godzilla (#1 on Pinside’s Top 100).

Sadly, we’re gonna need a bigger family room if we are ever to enjoy Jaws at home.

    • All pinball wizards worldwide are listed at https://www.ifpapinball.com/

Trigger warning for those passionate about matters 2SLGBTQQIA+: Of the 74 gender IDs recognized by #Science, the people who run this sport hatefully selected only two to feature (“men” and “women”). There are tournaments restricted to players identifying as “women” and tournaments that are “open”. The #1 ranked “woman” is ranked #88 in the all-gender list: https://www.ifpapinball.com/player.php?p=47411

The maximum number of balls per game is 10, but if I could set up a machine for 20 or 30 balls per game I might be able to get on the leaderboard!

  1. How do you know that the James Bond machine sold out in 45 seconds? What will the price of a Jaws machine be on the used market after the last new one is delivered? I recall a prior posting where you posed the question why they don’t auction them.

  2. I still don’t get it. Surely they can more of them. Why not to take all preorders and rip all possible profit?

  3. Update from Iowa Caucuses. 4 years ago I registered as a Democrat to experience the other side: nice people, but the Iowa democratic caucus process was exasperating. If your candidate didn’t go above a certain % threshold then your vote wouldn’t count unless you switched to another candidate and people would try to convince you to switch. It was an over 2 hour affair that reminded me of a 300 person game of red rover.

Tonight’s republican caucus was 37 min long. After the pledge and selecting a permanent chair (we wisely chose the temporary chair for this honor) people were invite to speak for their candidate and then we voted by writing on 1/8th sheets of paper. In my small town 60 of 300 registered Republicans showed up. 26 Trump 21 Haley, 11 DeSantis, and 1 Ramaswamy. Oh it was -9°F! My wife and I brought our 2 and 7 year olds and split our votes between the governor of Florida and former governor of South Carolina.

    • Very disappointing that only 37% of the vote went to Make India Great Again candidates.

    • Andy: Thanks for the boots-on-the-ground perspective. I am astonished at the results. Whatever Trump’s merits might have been in 2016, he is plainly far too old for the job at this point. I would have expected at most 30% of Iowans to vote for him. Americans won’t hire old people to work in their companies. Why are they willing to vote for old people to hold these critical political jobs?

  4. @Anonymous Trump is half German and half Scottish, which quite representative of America’s founding stock.

It’s not Germans who are Prime Minister of the UK, First Minister of Scotland, Taoiseach of Ireland, Mayor of London, mayor of Birmingham, VP of the US, CEO of Microsoft, CEO of Google/Alphabet, CEO of Novartis, CEO of Adobe, CEO of IBM, CEO of Starbucks, CEO of Micron, CEO of Cadence, and CEO of Palo Alto Networks.

And it’s definitely not German H-1B’s who flooded the Grace Hopper Conference.

  5. @Faucian Bargain with that logic only white Irish German and Anglo-Saction protestants should be in all these positions. All the people you are referring most of them are born here. What about Jews which are huge presence in finance ,politics and media? Yes Indians came legally through H-1B process. If you look at the 19th century European immigration they just got onto the boats and just came here
