Oregon governor’s primary qualification is lesbianism?

Oregon’s governor has been posting her opposition to the federal government’s plan to clean up mostly peaceful Portland, e.g., this tweet:

Not having previously heard of this person, I visited her official web site to learn something about her background:

On November 8, 2022, Tina Kotek made history along with Maura Healey of Massachusetts, becoming the first openly lesbian governors elected in American history.

Throughout Tina’s professional career as an advocate for those in need, she has carried the value of service instilled in her by her parents to get real results for Oregonians.

Tina’s grandparents came from Eastern Europe in the early part of the last century to find opportunity and a better life. Her parents were proud first-generation Americans. They believed in hard work, being informed citizens, and encouraging their children to follow their dreams.

Tina moved to Oregon from the East Coast in 1987, and fell in love with the beauty of the state and the openness of the people. She finished her undergraduate degree at the University of Oregon, graduating without student debt because of a Pell grant, work study assistance, and affordable tuition.

Tina came out as a lesbian in her early twenties. While it wasn’t always easy, each experience coming out to others strengthened her resilience. While getting her graduate degree, Tina fought for and won domestic partnership rights for faculty and students at the University of Washington.

The word “lesbian” appears four times in this official biography, including in the very first sentence. The reader learns about the governor’s passion for lesbianism twice before learning anything about a job that the governor might have had prior to becoming governor (unless one considers “having sex with other women” to be a job?). In other words, the reader might reasonable infer that the governor’s primary qualification for being governor is lesbianism (or “identifying as a lesbian”).

  1. I was going to say, “I want to be the first U.S. president under 5′ 6″.” Apparently, that was #4 James Madison at 5′ 4″. I guess I could get an operation and become the first trans president, but I don’t want the job that bad, or at all.

“You just don’t go running a little short man like that against a tall man.” — Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

  2. @Short King
Do try and keep up. No operation is required to identify as trans. If you find that confusing, just think of it in the same way as “man” or “woman”.

    • [“I am woman.” — Helen Reddy, repeated by me into the mirror on the wall.]

Hmm, I don’t *feel* too different. (Feeling cute in the tiara, though.) I guess one advantage is that liberals’ messaging will seem confusing if they start #NoQueens rallies, after I install myself as Queen Mother.

I really can’t keep up, sorry Mitch. My mommy and daddy told me girls have innies and boys have outies (what can I say, it was the ’60s), brainwashing which has stubbornly stuck with me. I asked them when I was eight, “How do you tell boy babies from girl babies?” They both looked at each other and thought, “Damn this son is slow.” I told them I really meant “just by looking at their faces”–and they laughed and said it could be difficult until boys hit puberty and got Adam’s apples–advice which came in handy in New York bars, trust me. (Thanks mom and dad for disambiguating my understanding of gender.)

  3. When someone tells you “can manage our own” remind them that if they ever need help during a natural disaster or financial crisis, they should “manage their own” instead of knocking on the federal government’s door for assistance.

  4. I’d like to know if these cities are doing anything different about crime in order to head off Trump’s argument.

The Portland Nike store having such a large shoplifting problem that they asked the city to let them pay a cop to sit in the store.

They had security people, but I think they were limited in the amount of force they could dole out, so needed full-fledged police.

The city said no, so now Portland doesn’t have any Nike stores.

Nike is a famous Oregon brand. It’s the only Oregon brand I can think of, actually.

    • David: Pendleton was founded in Oregon, I think! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pendleton_Woolen_Mills (founded by a high-skill immigrant from England and, therefore, provides a great argument for a border open to low-skill immigrants from countries other than England)

I’m personally going to boycott Pendleton, however, until such time as we move out of South Florida.

  5. As an obese transvestite I wish you would spend more time shining a spotlight on us rather than trashy banal lesbians. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    • Hey good lookin’:

If you are the Katie Porter I think you are, then we don’t want to give any attention to persons who denigrate women–do you remember saying:

“Then those bitches want to borrow my van because none of the shit fits in the Escalade”

You really should watch the potty mouth, hon. You have mothered 3 children, so I am assuming you are a cis woman. So as a transvestite you dress in men’s clothes like Annie Hall? Wouldn’t you look like Oliver Hardy? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Oliver_Hardy_-_1938.jpg

Or do you identify as a trans (obese) man, and your designer dress by M.M. LaFleur and pumps by Manolo Blahnik in Elle magazine expressed your transvestism? The grossest thing about you is being an obese single mom, although the acts that created your children are kinda unspeakable too. Are you still living in subsidized housing on the campus of UC Irvine, at taxpayers expense? Apologies if you are some other Katie Porter, XoXo <<<3 otherwise.
