It’s Art Basel time again here in Florida. See Art Basel Miami Beach and Art Basel Miami 2021 for some photos of earlier versions. Who wants to meet at the event on Friday for lunch? Please email philg@mit.edu with a subject line of “Meet at Art Basel” if interested. Alternatively, we can meet near my hotel for breakfast on Friday. Paying $2,000/night to be with all of the fabulous people in the heart of Miami Beach is a mere rounding error for me, which is why I’ll be across the Venetian Causeway next to Trinity Cathedral. I’ll be blasting back north via Brightline in the evening.
A prescient work by Christine Wang from 2021:

Ah, the decline and fall of Western Civilization, Part III! The Government-Inflation-Society painting is very contemporary with its BDSM mood and bidirectional female-on-female gaze. I would have expected it be manga (with the submissive being in ahegao pos), so it seems to be outside the modern in that way (she’s probably rejecting her Asiatic roots as a statement). Inflation is indeed the milk of a BDSM-driven society. Are you going for the $4500 Premium Discovery Pass? (2 day, kids free when accompanied by an adult with ready explanations about decadence)–what wonders would that level of bougie unlock?
Last time in was in Miami, I took a wrong turn into some gay barrio on the way to the beach. Luckily I was in a hooptie rental (not joking, it had curb feelers), so didn’t get robbed. I’m probably going to pass on the meet-up, Phil.
Dr. Greenspun’s on the cusp of starting to include hot photos in his posts to increase engagement and search engine optimization! Hahaha!
@PGF
Did you know Philistines literally means “the people of Phil”? In this post he is benevolently guiding us Philistines into the cusp of an important new category of art haute (pardon my French and puns): Le Mèmes Internet. He wants us to discover her serious portfolio here:

I can see the influences of Warhol, Gauguin and catluva85 on “Know Your Memes”. Prints on t-shirts of her “Cat Reading the Communist Manifesto” are available where ever kitchy merch is sold. On the Internet, the reality is you can’t attract people without sexy cartoons. “Viva le BDSM.” HTH, fellow Phil fan, and thank you Phil for the smut, which isn’t readily available on the Internet in Mississippi and North Dakota.
I am not sure why anyone sees the painting as of “hot” people. We are informed that dark skin is a prerequisite for attractiveness and the people depicted are of a pale and headed-for-extinction color.
@philg > We are informed that dark skin is a prerequisite for attractiveness
Christine’s views on whites are more nuanced than your informants:

My informants (Google) tell me she had a white boyfriend:

Also, remember that we are Philistines (who are a little disappointed you don’t understand your own fans), not mindless PC sheep. Regards.
I hadn’t seen that portrait of Harvey Weinstein. That would be an awesome Christmas present for Gavin Newsom!
Kidding aside, she is actually a very interesting artist visually, sans the goofiness. I really was reminded of Warhol and Gauguin when I looked at her portfolio. Why does everything these days have to be overtly political? I never thought N-95 masks could become politicized, in my previous model of the world.
I wonder what she could show us if she distanced herself from the toxic culture of modern politics and social media, and she used painting itself to express the ideas — not just telegraph it to us. People who appreciate art don’t really need to be hit over the head with a “message” like they were Redditors. I hope you get a chance to meet her at the art show, Phil, it would be an interesting interaction! Your photography demonstrates you know a lot about art, too.

Is there a way to sustainable, natural way to change whom you find attractive, Dr. Greenspun? Brain-washing is not a natural way, Dr. Greenspun, it creates an internal conflict in individuals and an unstable society, as a whole. Unstable = not [self-sufficient with a growing population].

There is an old-fashioned way to achieve the modern ideal of beauty, skip the SPF 9000, and get a tan. And as usual there’s a Reddit group for that:
https://www.reddit.com/r/blackfishing/
“Blackfishing is a phenomenon where a person has altered their appearance to fool others into thinking they are of a Black/African descent.” Hmmm…you learn something new every day!
Phil has been progressive in presenting hot cartoon art, IMO, this one is rainbow themed:
