A lot of retailers display this sign, but my favorite is GadgetWorks, whose smartphone and game console customers are in no way dependent on data centers:
The Guardian says that the dream would be to find a data center that is used by ICE and involved in demanding IDs from voters:
Speaking of ID, although everyone in Evanston seems to agree that requiring ID to vote is unreasonable, the city requires ID of those who wish to visit the local (Lake Michigan) beach:
I was somewhat surprised to see the organization behind the protests, “Humans First” (https://www.humansfirst.com/july-18-datacenters) is very Trump-adjacent. Luddism is bipartisan.
The anti-AI movement is the next frontier in human insanity, from the same people who brought you masking, BLM, DEI, global warming & from the river to the sea.
To be fair, some suggestions to build data-centers in small town America, where they will hike electricity and utility prices and threaten local water streams, are not making sense to anyone including data centers owners, except for local property owners. This triggers local resistance to the idea to datacenters. But there are many half-empty industrial parks, which are usually located near highways and far from residential and recreational areas, that are perfectly suitable for data center development. Of course datacenter development should be done concurrently with electricity production and power grid enhancement development, then it will benefit everyone.
We are told to oppose building data centers, even as China races ahead in AI [1]. We are also told to support illegal migrants, regardless how ill educated they are. You have to admire the consistency of today’s woke and liberal thinking.
