I visited The Great Elephant Migration, “a coexistence story”, in Boston’s Back Bay. You can see them through September 13, 2026.
The life-size elephants are made in South India out of an immigrant plant that a sign regarding the elephant “Kashmiri” (Kashmir is a great example of coexistence between Muslims and Hindus?) describes as an “invasive weed”:
The immigrant, Lantana camara, as portrayed by Wikipedia: “L. camara can outcompete native species”. (Immigrant humans make life easier for natives, in other words, while immigrant plants consume scarce resources and make life either miserable or impossible for natives.)

Phil, what do you think the proper gestures of recognition, assistance, or other should be offered to this “unhoused neighbor” by those (neighbors?) who don’t “bother” to stop? Also, should there be penalties for these callous “people” who can’t be bothered–maybe spanking or paddling at a minimum?
Relative to these callous thugs, what if Mayor Michelle Wu schedules a daily “Elephant Stomp” of them on the architecturally stunning Boston City Hall Plaza (where there must be a square mile of beautiful concrete that works perfectly for an Elephant Stomp)? Spanking or Paddling seems too nice. And, she can serve free beer in “Fuck Ice” giveaway mugs. A Twofer!
Neighbors: 93% of Bostonians voted for Mayor Michelle Wu, who says “Housing is a fundamental human right” (see https://www.poah.org/news/mayor-wu-cuts-ribbon-supportive-sustainable-affordable-housing-older-adults-nubian-square as an example). So at least some of the folks walking down Boylston St. should have stopped to offer assistance in claiming this human right!

Great post as always. That puppy is very, very cute. Perhaps TS having one will lead to the rise of them in hot environments such as southern CA and FL.
While you have been in Boston, have you been able to pick up any opinions on the Clancy case? (Post forthcoming?) I was shocked from the jury’s almost decision – that was one of the biggest twists of the tale!
