lion: It’s reasonably easy to do a zero-airspeed autorotation from 800’… if you’re practicing zero-airspeed autorotations. Having to do it suddenly when you’re expecting another day in the (airborne) office is a separate issue, unfortunately. A computer wouldn’t have any problem with this, of course. As soon as power was removed, put the helicopter into a nosedive to pick up sufficient airspeed to cushion the landing at the bottom.

Technically, the related word “salam” is peace. (Salami being a peaceful sausage?) “Islam” literally means the submission to God’s will, a will sometimes mistakenly interpreted as “humans should destroy everything around them to cause maximal chaos” by some sociopathic monsters. I’d guess that W. just made a lexical error, as he doesn’t seem that deep.

If we had wiped out 1 billion humans with the LGM-118 Peacekeeper missile, I am sure that they would have been comforted to learn about the substring “peace” within the name. Same with the B-26 Peacemaker strategic/nuclear bomber. ChatGPT says that our sales of warplanes to foreign nations are often prefixed with “Peace”. The F-15s that Saudi Arabia used to bomb the peaceful Yemenis (“Houthis”) were sold under a program called “Peace Sun”. The F-16s sold to Portugal under “Peace Atlantis” were used to help bomb Serbians in a 1999 campaign to create an Islamic-ruled Kosovo nation within Europe. Turkey has used its “Peace Onyx” F-16s to kill Kurds in northern Iraq and Syria.
“Peace” is the price we pay for reality running on the Orwell84 virtual machine.

Wow, that is incredibly insightful! Thanks for highlighting it because I had not seen it. The last two paragraphs are one of the most perfect summaries I’ve seen of the current state of the world. BTW, her reference to Tocqueville is particularly insightful. His “Democracy in America” is perhaps the greatest book on America (*highly* recommend to anyone who hasn’t read it; it is lone, but stick with it because it will stick with your forever) and what he wrote in 1831 is still perfectly on target.
