What kind of pictures can you take with a $10,000 camera and lens?

A lot of people email asking “Can I really take an acceptable quality photo with a $10,000 camera/lens combination?” To answer this question for yourself, check out

If you prefer cheaper/lighter equipment, I have recently completed a guide to the Olympus digital SLR system:

Comments welcome as always.

  1. Picked up your website from a google olympus digital alert. This article helps me more than dpreview and is much clearer and concise, The lens data is very helpful. I am a pentax K10D user and I am waiting for the review of the K20D before I commit to Olympus which was always my first love. My pentax lenses are not high quality except for the 50mm f 2.8 sigma macro. I would keep my Pentax equipment even if I switch to Olympus.I am going to have a lot of enjoyment out of this website. Thankyou. Malcolm. (69 years old).

  2. I would really like your opinions on the new Nikon and Canon cameras that are coming out in the range $800-$1500. A review describing which one would be better for an amateur photographer.

  3. Anonymous: Compare the D60 and the 40D? They are virtually identical. Which one would be better for the amateur? Both will probably be bought and used with the kit lens, in which case the photographer would have done better to stick with his or her mobile phone camera. Bodies aren’t interesting; lenses are interesting.

  4. Phil you really should get a Macintosh and use that as a camera. It has many good features and you can run windows on it…
