Public health expert predictions vs. The Curve

Here’s an annotated chart from a tweet:

The CNN article cited seems to be “The Omicron surge hasn’t peaked nationwide, and ‘the next few weeks will be tough,’ US surgeon general says” (updated Jan 18). The February 23 interview with Dr. Biden’s colleague Dr. Fauci can be found on MSN.

(I’m not convinced that the above chart proves Dr. Fauci wrong, at least in the eyes of those who Follow Science. The masks won’t come off in Los Angeles until March 23 (ABC). For the Mask Believers (against the evidence), if there is another case surge this summer they could easily attribute it to the late March Unmasking.)

  1. The coronapanic affair seems minor compared to Putin. If only the people of 2020 knew what was coming. The people of 2001 would still say 2022 was mild.

  2. Putin hasn’t ordered me locked in my house, tried to force me to wear a mask, nor has he tried to force me to inject myself with an experimental drug that has a dubious safety record, and it wasn’t Putin who messed up two years of my kids schooling.
Putin is just running a minor ‘police action’ it is nothing compared to America’s decades of police actions and bombing the democracy into people.
Even if Putin is a thug he is a lightweight compared to even minor state level corona thugs.

    • nytimes posted an article that Putin was himself afflicted by a severe case of corona panic. He probably really got bored and picked up a copy of War and Peace and dreamed up some grand ideas.

      https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/05/world/putin-pandemic-mindset.html
“U.S. intelligence weighs Putin’s two years of extreme pandemic isolation as a factor in his wartime mind-set.

“Now Mr. Putin has in-person visitors — including the Israeli prime minister, Naftali Bennett, who met with Mr. Putin for about three hours on Saturday. (Mr. Putin’s residence and the Kremlin are outfitted with disinfectant tunnels that all visitors must pass through.)

“The Federal Protective Service, Russia’s answer to the Secret Service, built a virus-free bubble around Mr. Putin

    • Sounds like propaganda. Putin just held a rally in Moscow attended by 200,000 people. Must be a germaphobe or something.

I’m always amused by the puvl8c clowns pontificating on mental state of people they never met. That is something necessary to charge people with thoughtcrimes like racism or not being literal Hitler (or is it Putin these days? I lost track.)

  3. You should recognize the technique used in this tweet — Lie about what someone said, then claim they’re stupid for having said it.

In this case “hasn’t peaked” and “hasn’t peaked nationwide” are clearly different. This wave peaked in different places at different times, so just because the peak was past in NY doesn’t mean it was over in your part of the country.

    Is this up for dispute?

Once you notice the lie, you shouldn’t need to read anything else from this person.

  4. Schools in this (conservative) area had to shut down the third week of January due to staffing shortages, so I think the article from CNN is pretty accurate.
