I’ll be in Providence, Rhode Island this weekend and would be happy to meet up with readers! The plan is to attend WaterFire on Saturday night, but otherwise I’m fairly flexible. Sunday morning coffee downtown would work, for example. The weather forecast is great. Email philg@mit.edu if interested!

Two recommendations:
1. Madrid Bakery (199 Wayland Ave – ~2mi from downtown) for outstanding pastries. I don’t know, but I assume the coffee is good.
2. East Side Pockets (278 Thayer St) for excellent falafel wrap. Could be a good lunch spot if you intend to experience Brown students in situ.
Thanks, Mitch. Is the falafel wrap approved by the Brown chapter of Queers for Palestine?
Actually, if one were at Madrid maybe that would already be the headquarters of Queers for Palestine! Spain recognizes a Hamas-ruled river-to-the-sea Palestinian nation-state, right?
ESPockets — best shwarma we’ve been able to find outside of Monsey but atmosphere is utilitarian at best, booths, high stools in the front window.
L’Artisan Cafe — popular with East Siders. Flexible seating outdoors, could fit the bill if the weather holds.

Gotta say L’Artisan Cafe is nothing special. Especially with the option of the great Madrid 50 steps away.
I think that the move with the falafel would be to eat somewhere outdoors at Brown.
Madrid sounds great!
How about a philg lunch-in on the RISD beach? Nosh & watch the pink-haired pass by…
