My first stop during the August trip to Maskachusetts was in Brookline, which vies with Cambridge for intellectual elitism and maximum credentialism.
A stroll to the bookstore in Coolidge Corner began with these apparently contradictory scenes. A halal family in what was formerly a Jewish suburb and a haram Rainbow Flag celebrating sexual activities that are punishable by death under Islam.
Brookline Booksmith offers free whistles (“look out for your neighbors”; in case the undocumented are living in the $3 million house next door) and a sacred Rainbow Flag on its front door:
There were no Black people either shopping or working in the store, but there is a well-stocked Black Studies section in case Claudine Gay walks in:

According to just the above two pages, the man came back from not having the ability to use language for his first 12 years and also from (1) a serious head injury, (2) epilepsy, and (3) a brain tumor.
